To My Son's
You talk to them every single
day
Do they really ever listen to what you have to say?
You speak to them but do they hear
Do they realize you live in fear?
Fear that they will make a
wrong turn
Do something wrong or truly get burned
We talk and where does it go
Will it sink in is what I want to know
They look at us, as we know
nothing at all
When we speak its like we are talking to the wall
They seem to know everything at a young age
Wait till it's their turn to live on our page
The page of the book we
called life
Full of love, hatred, worry and strife
So many chapters we must go through
So many mistakes that we seem to do
All we want is for them to
understand
To know and realize what it is to be a man
To know that life if full of ups and downs
Its full of laughter, tears and frowns
We are trying to help them
along the way
But it seems that they don’t care what we say
They will do just what they please
And say anything to put our mind at ease
But what they don’t see is
the pain we bare
When we realize that they really don’t care
When we learned that they didn’t listen at all
When we reach for the phone and get that call
The one that makes your heart
skip a beat
The one when your body temperature rises in heat
You're shaking and afraid to hear who's on the line
And thank God when you hear "Mom I am fine"
But something is wrong I made
a mistake
I heard what you said but the words didn't take
They simply went in one ear and out the other
And NOW I know what you were saying my Mother
You talk to them, calm down
their fears
Give them your love try to wipe away their tears
You need to know that they are all right
When deep inside you want to fight
You hold in your anger, try
not to let them see
As you talk to them as calmly as you can be
And then you slowly hang up the phone
You start to ramble, walk and roam
First you thank God that they
are alive
And then you feel nothing but numbness inside
Then you feel the tears start to roll down your face
Take a deep sigh, and start to pace
You scream you yell and no
one is there
No one is listening seeing how much you care
They don’t see the pain you feel deep within
All you want to be is right there with him
You want to hold on tight and
never let go
You want to shake them so hard for them to know
To really see how hurt you are, see the tears you shed
For they never listen to a word you said
Do you not realize the love I
have for you
Do you not know that all I say and do
Is only because I love you my son
Please realize that my talking is never done
For as long as I have a
breathe in me
I will be there watching you as you can see
God gave me to you, my baby my son
And the work of a mother is never done.
Written to you both, with all
the love I have,
I only hope and pray that someday you fully realize
just what
you both mean to me.
