History of the Candy Cane
The candy maker who invented the candy cane
designed it to display the message of Christmas and
Christ as Lord and Savior!
The white stripes represent the purity and
sinless ness of Christ. The small red stripes stand
for the scourging of Jesus before the cross, and
the large red stripes represent the blood that Jesus
shed for each one of us on the cross!
The shape of the cane is that of a shepherd's
staff, reminding us that Jesus is the Good
Shepherd. When the cane is turned upside-down, it
is the letter "J", the first letter of Jesus' name.
